In Japan today, Nintendo unveiled the first details for Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo - Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu, a brand-new Nintendo DS entry in Intelligent Systems' series of strategic role-playing games. The title, a remake of a game originally released for Japanese Super NES systems in 1994, is due out July 15 over there at a suggested retail price of 4800 yen.
Arguably the most popular Fire Emblem game in Japan (the only one in the series to make a user-voted "top 100 games ever" list published by Famitsu magazine in 2006), Monshou no Nazo covers the tale of Marth, an Altean prince charged with rescuing his sister and winning his kingdom back after being forced into exile. One of the big new features in this remake is a "My Unit" system that lets you create a completely original character, customizing his or her looks, unit type, and skills. This character then becomes a sort of alternate hero in the story, with the game's prologue covering how he or she joins the Altean army and becomes a member of Marth's personal guard. (Other side stories involving your My Unit become unlocked later on in the game.)
